Day 13

Pray for Someone Today (Colossians 1:9)

Ever been guilty of hearing about a need from a friend or a coworker who asked, “Will you pray for me about that…?” And you forget to do so? Yeah, that’s happened to me a time or two. In fact, to this day, when someone says, “Pray for me.” I literally pray for them right after they walk away. That way I never forget! Ha!

But my point is this—praying for others ought to be one of the most highly appraised rhythms of the believer’s life. Paul says in our passage, “…we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” I was taken aback by how Paul says, “we haven’t stopped praying for ya.” Wow. What a testimony. What’s more, Paul is writing this letter from prison! Right when you’d think he’d be begging others for THEIR prayers, he prays for others even in his own season of suffering.

I got news for us, most of us are not in jail today. And even if we were there is no reason for you and I to not intently lift others up before our Lord.

In my years of praying for the flock I’ve found it not only beneficial for them—God really does answer prayer. But I’ve found it just as, if not more so, beneficial for me. I feel better when I pray for someone. I’m more encouraged. I have more peace. God does something in my heart and mind when I lift others up in prayer.

Think about that friend who needs the Lord right now. Think about that fellow church member. That kid. That neighbor. That spouse. And lift them up before God.

Love ya!
