Day 10

Slow Down (Psalm 27:14)

In many ways fasting is about intentionally slowing yourself down. I’ve spoken with so many of you who’ve shared how God has led you to fast and pray in this season. I’m so encouraged to see how you guys are being stretched by God. I’ve heard of ‘nothing but juice” fasts. No “streaming tv” fasts. No “sugar” fasts. And the list goes on. However God has led you, I’m certain that for most of you He’s led you the way He has in order to slow you down a bit.

We’re always rushing. It’s our culture. It’s our nature. We want what we want fast. And if we have a real need, we want that even faster. But can I get a witness that God is RARELY in sync with our timeline and pretty much committed to His own? I can hear you saying “Amen!”

But there’s a reason God keeps His timeline. I can look back over my life and see when I forced His hand and moved in front of the line and manipulated my way. I can honestly say that anything I got too fast disappeared about as swiftly as it came to me. Jesus knows what’s good for us. We all know this. But another lesson that prayer and fasting teaches us?—Jesus also knows WHEN is good for us as well.

The Psalmist says here, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

Remember if God is making you wait today it’s because today is not a good day for you to have what you want. If may not even be a good day to have what you truly need. And that can be very difficult to bear. But as the Psalmist cried out just before this verse, “I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!” Trust that God’s timing is the best timing for you.

Wait on the Lord friend. He’s got you. I’m praying for you right now!
